Its been discussed in several other threads on the site. One point raised is that they are advertising it as a way to secretly handle drug deals.
I feel it is overhyped and not useful for true comms. It will be crippled by limitations similar to FRS/GMRS radios. 2 watts max. Being digital will give it some advantage but still it will be relatively line of site. In order to get the 50 mile range advertised they suggest being 500 feet above the ground. We have seen that song and dance before. Battery life of the phone without a cell signal will be limiting as well. If you don't have cell service the battery dies quickly as the phone seeks a signal. Putting the phone in airplane mode helps. |

I was wondering what band they would use. FRS or MURS makes the most sense for licensing reasons.
Completely secure?!?!? Encryption allowed somehow? I love the way they advertise that you can do illegal drug deals in complete privacy. ETA: And when the power goes out you can communicate directly with all other Go-tennas WITHIN RANGE. Meaning . . . the next room.

You can turn BT and Wifi on in Airplane mode. You have to manually do it, but it works.
$150 for 2 sounds like a good idea to me! Might preorder one next month. Quoted:
Hmm, 2 watt radio at 151-154 MHz, sounds like MURS... Data is allowed on MURS; I'd wager thats what it is. |

I just found out that technically, digital voice isn't allowed on MURS since that is F2E... |

My comparison ot ham was that f2b didn't say anything about encryption. I would think that murs follows other unlicensed services like cb, gmrs, and frs. |
