I am having problems with my KX3 and sound modes. I am using the cable kit from elecraft but have sharp spikes across the whole thing.

You're not plugged into the RX I/Q port are you?
Turned off stereo and audio effects like AFX MD on the KX3?

I've seen this myself but can't remember why...

For a wider waterfall open up the bandwidth using the center small button and adjust the high end to its highest and the low end to its lowest.

Should be able to get a solid 3k and a little short of the low end.
