My FIL lives in Guatemala and enjoys listening to the BBC, VOA, DW, etc.
He has had a Sony SW receiver for years and apparently it it no longer working. Any recommendations on a simple set? I think the newer models confuse him. He doesn't want 500 presets. In fact I think he likes thumbing the analog dial. Not looking to get crazy and spend a grand but OK with buy once, cry once. Thanks, Steve |

Grundig S450DLX.
http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/portable/5450.html Built in ferrite loop stick for AM, and telescoping whip for FM and SW, but it has terminals for external antennas. Uses D batteries, but can also take AAs. Comes with a wall wart for 110 vac. Large speaker for good sound volume without distortion. Analog tuning. Simple and easy to operate. |

| I have a Grundig G3 as a knock-around set. It works well with the included whip and a short outside antenna can be used without overloading the front end. It also can receive SSB and CW and sells for around $100. |
