I got this battery yesterday (from eBay just as described, well packed, new, 13V on the meter) and there is this printed on the side (click pic for full size):

Standby 13.5-13.8
Cyclic 14.40-14.7

Both rows on the right hand colum say 'Initial Current less than 5.40A'

The UPS 'charger' is a BU3DC001-12V which originally held inside a Yuasa 7.2Ah 12V

This morning the charge on the battery is a solid 13.65V

Does cyclic mean "charging while being used" ?

And will I have a long term issue using that charger on an 18Ah?  My logic says 'No' but I'd like to confirm

I do UPS work.

That UPS is made to charge it's battery and not the larger one.

Standby is a float charge. You can apply that constant voltage to the battery without damaging it. For current limited dumb chargers.

I don't think there will be an issue with the UPS on that size battery. I've seen similar things done before.

what happens? (or doesn't happen)

in this case it would just be to maintain the charge.

It would just take longer to charge.  As far as keeping at a "float" level no problem.

Battery Tender Jr would be fine, too.  I've kept as much as 48 ah at float with a Jr.

You could also use the Low Loss Power Gate like I have with your regular power supply:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_22/671603_Portable_power_and_Solar_Charging_Gadgets.html

With battery and your regular power supply, this whole system now acts like a big UPS.
