Decided to run it to the other tree. This leave about a 20' line of rope on the end, but that is a good insulator against high end of line voltages. I will see if it is high enough about roof for no problems. |

Don't let the fact you can only get an antenna up 21' when you think it should be at least 32.7' or whatever. You can have an antenna up and logging stations at almost any height, but yes, higher is better. I have talked all over the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Carribean with an OCFD hung anywhere from 15' to 20' at various locations. Last time it was hung at only 15' and I talked to a ham in Yokohama, Japan. Most important, hang some wire and get on the air. |

Thanks. My original question had to do with the end of my 90' leg of the OCFD terminating IN a palm tree, rather than away from the tree (insulated by rope), or having the leg hit the peak of my roof. I came up with a solution of running it to the tree which would have it hit the roof, then used to other tree to pull the line over off the roof so it is clear and clean. Now I just have to get the run into the house, and I can fire this thing up--of course, I still have all the lightening stuff to do around the pole. |
