I've spent the last few days getting comfortable using my Icom IC-7200 and the WSJT-X program to make contacts with JT65. Throughly enjoying this awesome digital mode and have worked about 35 states and 20 countries so far.

One thing that I notice frequently is an obvious signal being sent, yet when the WSJT-X software decodes for that time period, nothing shows up on the "Band Activity" portion of the screen. It's definately a JT65 signal and strong at that, but for some reason it's not being received and decoded. Any one else have this occur on a regular basis with their equipment???

Even more frustrating is when I occasionally send CQ, I clearly see a faint signal answering my CQ call, but the radio and/or software doesn't seem to have the sensitivity needed to decode the signal that is being sent back to me. I can verify this sometimes because of the visitors that show up on my QRZ.com page (mostly foreign call signs). Is there any adjustments/settings that can be made to either the IC-7200 or the software to raise the sensitivity level to where it may be able to be decoded???

Sometimes the sending station has:

Time wrong
ALC wrong (causing distortion)
On the wrong side band

I had a station that kept calling me earlier but I could not decode him.
I could decode everyone but him.

Thanks for the reply Mr Harry.
I suppose that could be happening occasionally, but this seems to be a somewhat regular occurrence on my end. I still do decode plenty of stations, but if there was a way to decode these other signals I would be making SOOOO many more contacts. Maybe I'm just being greedy...

Blame it on propagation, it isn't always bi-directional

I always turn my AGC off. I have tried setting it to fast but it does better with it off.

I have this happen from time to time as well.  I have taken to running both JT65-HF and  WSJT-X at the same time.  I find that if one doesn't decode a signal, the other usually will.  It seems to be about 50-50% on which of the two programs has the decoding issue.
