I'm still trying to get this running properly. I called cq for the first time and got a response from N.H and with a 599 signal report.  Whoo hooo!!. Then the computer partially froze up on me. The waterfall was still running but the curser was frozen. Rebooted the computer and worked fine again until I tried to transmit. Then the same thing happened. Seems every time I transmit the computer at least partially freezes up. If this matters, when I transmit a horizontal green line appears across the entire waterfall. Not sure what that means.

Not only did I lose my first PSK31 contact I'm really getting frustrated getting this whole thing working properly
I'm using Digipan on a laptop using windows8.
At this point any would be greatly appreciated.

It might be RF getting into your computer, you could try reducing power output- use your interface to reduce volume to radio to reduce power.  What is your SWR?

If you are using a USB mouse or keyboard, I have found some frequency/power combination will freak mine out.

Sometimes unplugging and replugging the mouse brings it right back.

You do know, Digipan has not been supported for more than 10 years.

I don't have a SWR meter so I have no idea what the SWR is. I know I'm getting hardly anything showing in the RF meter. How would RF be getting back inti the computer?

I know Digipan is older software but it's still very popular so I don't see why it still wouldn't work.

How much power are you using?

I had the same problem. Go to Radio Shack and get some (as in a bunch) of the snap on ferrite beads. They come in a few sizes that will fit the mouse cord, keyboard cord, ...any thing going into the computer. A lot of the cheaper mouse and keyboards don't have much protection from stray RF

Not sure exactly. I set the radio output to 50 watts and barely turned up the transmit on the signalink until I had one bar showing on the rf meter. So I don't know what the exact output is. Not sure how to tell either.

You might also consider a 2.4GHz wireless mouse keyboard setup. These seem to work better than ferrites on USB equipment. At least they work better for me.

Hmm.....that is a good tip. I may have to run to the local Microcenter and buy a set.

This is exactly what the problem was. I ordered some snap on ferrite beads from HRO and that solved the problem. PSK31 is awesome.

Good deal! Glad you got it fixed!

See you on the waterfall.

Back down on the audio drive until you have no more than 25 watts out.  Your signal will be cleaner and other users will thank you.  Seriously, too high power will blank out the rest of the band and other users will hear only you.  You won't be making friends and influencing people.  And I've talked around the world with just 20-25 watts PSK.

Follow jupiters advice.

I went back and set my gear to max output power on the radio and turned up the audio feed to 20W.

Looks the same to me but I get lots of "beautiful audio!" Reports now...did not before.

What I ended up doing was when I make my first 2 contacts I asked how my signal looked on the waterfall. Both stated I looked good and not too wide. So I know I'm not transmitting too much power. Thanks all.
