| I've been enjoying my new Ten Tec Omni 7 the past couple of days. In the days prior to the radio's arrival I was getting my antenna hung Radiowavz DX80, purchasing a power supply etc from HRO. I inquired at HRO about supplies for a station ground. The guys suggested that a station ground wasn't necessary. They mentioned that none of the working radios on display in their store were grounded. In the ten ted manual there is a detailed section on grounding your station but at the end of that information the manual suggests that "your home circuitry may provide sufficient grounding". So, am I crazy for not grounding my station? |
| A mobile station (including the operator) is entirely above ground, normally. BUT for safety reasons a fixed station should have a solid RF and DC ground. House wiring could be an OK DC ground sometimes, but it's almost always lousy at RF and not the most safe route through which to sink static discharges and the like. So you might get better performance and you will certainly be safer to install a proper ground. |

Read all of his pages on grounding, and everything else for that matter. I'm sure others will come along with more links.
