The first place I looked was $20/month, I talked her down to $15/month if I paid for a year up front.

Is that reasonable?

Yes, this is in the Ham section because I wouldn't be getting a POBox if I weren't getting my ham ticket.  Not a fan of having my address publicly available for all to see on a whim.

Per MONTH? Seems I rented a PO box for about that: $45 for a quarter year.

Are you looking for a private box or a postal office box?

I pay $65/6 months at the local post office.  It's a medium-sized one, big enough to hold large envelopes.

My business rate PO box at a real USPS brick-and-mortar building is $46 per year, just paid it a week ago. It was up $4 from last year I think.

Sounds like you're looking at a mailboxes etc or UPS store or something?

Most I've ever paid for a PO Box at the post office is about $60/yr.

Check around at little local "pack & ship" places too. My job takes me into a lot of those and they very often have quite a few un-leased boxes. And those places have been in business for years, they don't seem to ever go broke or close.

I'd think they'd be open to negotiating a fair price.

That's what this is.

Looks like I'll be heading to the USPS, though it's not convenient.  Still, it'll have to be checked once a week I guess.

Private boxes have an advantage that you can have Fedex and UPS delivery if you want, but the price is ridiculous.

Lot's of pluses to having a PO box besides just for a Ham ticket. I like having my vehicles registered to the box. It's just not that hard to get license plate info these days.

If you're not getting a lot of mail you don't have to check it often.

Although the USPS does get a little PO'd when they can't stuff another piece of junk mail in the box.

I once went 2 months without checking my box. Just had to go to the counter to claim the huge pile.

I use a UPS store address. $150 a year, but its also for a business mailing address so it costs a little more.

Or, if you have a work address where you plan on staying a while, where you can get mail, use your work address. Or an address of a relative, or whatever.
