| So I am going to sell my baby. Health problems with no end in sight is causing me to sell my baby. Sucks, but I hope someone can get as much joy out of it as I did. |

Well that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. You seem to be getting quite a bit of enjoyment out of it. I did. After getting t-boned in August I knew that it might come down to this. The wife is having to go back to work too. It'll be ok. I have a SB-200 so I can still get out there. I started using it again on Monday just to see how it was working. Thankfully it is still running. It has the original paper caps in the HV section. I think once I sell the Alpha, I will order the Harbach power supply mods sans capacitors (I have replacement caps out in the garage I got at fair radio a few years ago). Life happens and it's not like I am selling my K3, yet. I will say, running barefoot on 160m is going to absolutely suck though. Do you think I should put it in the equipment exchange? |

If they understand what it is.... they're already reading it here. When it comes time for the K3, let me know... Quoted:

This sucks .
I never got back with you about the tubes you offered to sell. Sorry about that. Been having severe back problems myself and never even used the new Commander amp myself.
Hope you get to feeling better. Have you considered getting a solid state amp? ALS600 can be found for around $600. They are nice little amps for the money. I got one too and like it a lot. |

It's all good about the tubes.. I have the Heath and with my sometimes less than ideal SWR on 15m, I am not sure that the ALS600 would be very happy. When things get better, I would love to try the AL80 with the pin-diode relay. Or if things get REALLY good again the AL82. I absolutely love the Alpha but if I were to do a big boy amp again, I'd like one that doesn't have a 2 min warmup time. |

Just a thought for you....
You are going through a rough time and everything is looking pretty down. You are a good man, and yes I while I may not personally know you I have formed a pretty good sense of what type of man you are. I understand what it's like to have to sell things you worked so hard for and that kick in the gut that comes with it. But I also see what type of man you are and know that You will have another Alpha, it may not be next week, but you will have one again. |

Sorry you had to sell it. I remember when you got it. I honestly thought about getting it but decided to keep holding out for a new AL-82 someday if my financed hold up. THe AL-82 is a good way to go. The big downside to ceramic tube is the warm up time, and the tubes are bloody expensive. If I ever get on my feet again (literally) the 80b or 82 look like nice ways to go. Instant on is a cool feature. And the tubes are only $150ish, not several hundred+++ |
