If you are at home right now and not on 10m, I am truly sorry.
signals are off the charts, lots of stations warming up for the weekend, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. |

10M has been hot as hell since last week. I went on a roadtrip for work all week last week, and 10M was already open by around 9am last monday. Pretty fun knocking down JA's on 10M with a 102" cb whip to an AH-4 tuner. My mobile rig's not a DX machine, but, you couldn't have told it that last week.
Sunspots are high right now, too. Currently at 228, and the noise levels have been quiet as a mouse. Makes me wish I wasn't sitting here at work waiting on updates to finish.... Hopefully I'll have a chance friday to finally get an antenna up in the air, and do a little contest work. |

It's blowing up here too! Signals all over the band. Hope it holds up untill this evening..gotta go fishing today. I know, what a dilemma...fishing or radio.. Easy solution... Marine Mobile Just don't have an "Unfortunate Boating Accident" with the radios! |

Wowzer! It's going crazy here, too. I'm glad you said something, because I hadn't even turned the radio on this morning. I had just finished working out and was about to jump in the shower when I saw your post. I picked up a couple of countries I need for DXCC on CW (actually have worked over 100 on CW, but still need the QSLs).
And now, it really is time to hit the shower. |
| It's not quite what it was in the late 80s but better than nothing. Atmospheric noise is pretty high around here right now but nothing that DSP and contour filters can't handle. Just worked several Japanese stations and nailed a few from Europe from my mobile on the way home. |

Got Indonesia on 15 SSB and then 10 SSB when he moved there. I can usually barely hear Indonesia at all and I've worked it three times in 24 hours with excellent signals! He's still on 28540 but fading here if anyone wants him.
ETA: Hong Kong 10 CW, China 10 CW, Philippines 10 CW, OMG - back to the radio... |

But a couple of days ago, I bagged RW3LG/MM on 20m SSB. He was located in Nakhodka, Russia, which is on the far east coast of Russia. That's the other side of Japan. Weird... Was that Carlos you bagged in Cape Verde? |

I dont understand what you guys are talking about, at all. Do you talk to other people or listen to the news? Yes, we are communicating with these other countries. Sometimes with by voice (microphone), sometimes by CW (Morse code), and sometimes by using a digital mode (think radio teletype). |

How often can you communicate with someone in another country? Just depends on the day? It's a lot of fun once you figure out the basics. It's really not all that complicated. HAM radio works when everything else fails. All you basically need is a radio, 12V power source and a simple wire antenna. You need to know which frequencies to use and the basics or radio wave propagation. Just to give you an example, I use a small Icom HF (Short Wave) radio in my truck. It's powered from the truck's battery. The radio is capable of putting out 100 Watts of power into a vertical antenna, in the back of the truck. I talked to several stations in Europe, from my truck, on the way home this afternoon. Now keep in mind that it was a point to point communication. No Internet, cell towers or any additional infrastructure was needed. Now imagine what would happen if Internet, phone lines and cell phones quit working. This day and age we'd be in deep sh*t. HAM radios would still work. And of course there is a fun factor, like chasing DX stations, contests, awards, etc. |

Piccolo, have you emigrated to Somalia? What's that flag next to your avatar? It seems that more than just Piccolo are expats lately! All in all a most awesome DX day! I do remember 10 being like this back around 1980 at the peak of that cycle and I was running a 3-element 10M Yagi but it was home made from the ARRL antenna book using parts from a storm-damaged Moonraker CB antenna that I got for free. It was also fed with nearly 100' of RG-8X and my rig was a HW-101 or SB-104 at the time. |

Piccolo, have you emigrated to Somalia? What's that flag next to your avatar? Some hippie told me that if I wanted to own guns and not pay taxes I should move to Somalia so I did. It's pretty good, really. I opened a boarding house and use Venetian blinds for bunk beds.

How often can you communicate with someone in another country? Just depends on the day? Depends on the day, conditions, whether or not your wife is hurling things at you for not paying attention to her… Lots of things… Most will tell you it's the sun that is the dominate factor… but it's not… It's primarily the amount of attention your wife is needing… The more attention she needs, the better the conditions, and the more contacts you won't have an opportunity to make… At least that's the way it usually works for me... |

How often can you communicate with someone in another country? Just depends on the day? It really depends Cap10. There are very few days a year where transatlantic communication isn't possible, however some days are far more difficult than others. Yesterday, was an exceptionally good day amongst a week that was much better than average. Good as far as radio propagation typically means, further more consistent communications with lesser than ideal equipment. I swear a lawn chair and 5w could have worked Europe yesterday. |

Solar flux is 153 this morning, with A & K indices 4 and 1 respectively. It could be even better today than yesterday. Western Europe is already rolling in now (1400Z) 10m isn't in bad shape again this morning. The SSN was higher yesterday (238) but heck, 10m is already doing great. I think this week will be a week we might remember for a long time |
