I'm using the EZCAP version of the dongle and SDR Sharp. Make sure to install BorIP and Zadig and it should go smoothly. I had to play with the sampling rate to get the audio to be clear. It was choppy until I found the right setting.
I've got a homebrew HF converter in the works, but the works are moving slowly right now.

These things are terribly fun. I've been running one on Ubuntu for a while now, and I keep finding interesting traffic to decode, P25, POCSAG pager, satelite packets, weather images, it goes on. If you're using SDR# on Windows, get Virtual Audio Cable so you can route the stream out to other apps for decoding.

post some details man. are you using cutesdr? gnuradio? I saw a YouTube video of a guy decoding encrypted voice from his /\/\ radio.

So I can't speak to much on the Win side, as all my fun has been on Linux, but in that regard here we go.

Everything runs through gnuradio, but I'm using gqrx for the gui. It's just as easy as SDR#, scroll, click listen.

As per a previous post, I've been using multimonNG to decode both AFSK1200 (aprs, sat packets and the like) and POCSAG (fire/ems/hospital pager) traffic. The big problem is usually pulse audio (surprise). To get around this use the padsp wrapper. Just have to preface the command with the wrapper to handle pulseaudo (padsp multimonNG <decode args>).

For P25 I'm using DSD. Pretty easy also, after compile, run padsp dsd after selecting your listening stream in gqrx and BAM, local fire/ems/police P25 on 800mhz isn't noise anymore. Just need to get the whole auto truncking scanner plugin setup working.

I've been working to get WXToImage up on the Ubuntu lappy, but haven really put time into it, but I'm sure it will work like a champ with the little rtl-sdr.

For Windows, get PDW and you can decode POCSAG and Flex pager traffic. You could also try the Windows compiled version of DSD to decode P25 digital. Virtual Audio Cable is a must so you can route the audio streams about the system between all these apps. In Linux you can just pipe it, Windows not so much ;)

Why not use soundmodem and ALSA? I hated my time trying to get multimon to work. This is something else I think would be cool to get working on the dongle. I have used it with my base radio just fine and the server info can be linked to xastir, I am trying to get it to work on yaac
