Is there anything to this or am I looking at snake oil?

snake oil

ground plan radials should be about 1/4wave, with on CB is about 9 feet.

the ground plane of a mobile install is the body of your truck.

snake oil and CB radio go hand in hand.

As an example, the A99 vertical (10M/CB) uses 4 radials that are 102"....

In a mobile, it's pointless.

No way, I got me a Modulator that swings 5000 watts from 2 pills and plugs into my cigarette lighter.

I will admit it makes me laugh at all the silly stuff I see in the CB world

A number of years ago, during the CB craze, a friend of mine was running a 'Radio Shack' and had a surplus of electrical tape to sell. He started the rumor that taping the length of a mobile antenna caused the electrons to 'squirt' out the top of the antenna and go farther. He had NO problem selling the extra tape.

Guess I'll go take the tape off of my antenna.....

WINNER!
Very funny, and, Great Salesman.
(It could happen, right?)

It doesn't even have any connection to the ground side of the antenna.  It's just a means of fucking up your radiator near the feedpoint.  If anything, I'd call it a "bottom-loaded capacitance ass-hat."  Or a "6-way radial counterproductive."

I'd loooooove to put that on my AIM-4170.  I'm just not willing to spend any money to do so.

WhatchootalkinaboutWillis?  My A99 works great mobile, especially with the radials!

LOLZ!

Reminds me...I decided no digging tonight, so if you want to play radio, let me know. Emailed you some oddities.

does the "drooper" kit enhance the A-99?

Dang, now I have to run the analyzer on it with and without.  Never thought of that before.    For that particular test, one of the radials was missing (got broken when a 60 mph wind took it down <not while mobile, LOL>).  I was just making sure it was still usable enough to warrant a new set of radials.  It was.

Next time I set that up, I'll wrap it in electrical tape and do a little 10m moonbounce.

Ground planes and counterpoises are not snakeoil.  They are the other half of a vertical antenna.  This one appears to be for UHF, but I see they don't mention frequencies.  So I would stay away from this one.,

But this device is neither a groundplane nor a counterpoise.  It's a mess of extremely short radials that are electrically connected to the base of the radiator.  That's why I called it a "bottom-loaded capacitance ass-hat."  Or a "6-way radial counterproductive."

teeny tiny ground radials on 10/11m are pretty much useless. I don't think anyone is doubting the science or effectiveness.....but the picture clearly shows something woefully undersized for the purported band.
