I don't see any of these...even after searching, so lets have a mobile radio picture thread!

Show us the cool radios, installs, consoles, etc! Show pictures, then list details of the install!

I'm considering fabricating a drop in console into the center console compartment of my blazer, with an external panel on the side for mic/external speaker hookup.

No pics from me yet - I'm still deciding on radios. No HAM yet, but taking the test next month, and going to install a dual band VHF/UHF, a HF, and a P25 UHF radio (for SAR). Totally undecided on which radios to get yet, but I'm hoping one of your vehicles will inspire me!

Do you duplex the CB onto the same antenna or do you run two antennas?
8/5/2013 3:46:32 PM EDT

two different antennas. the CB is on Passenger side fender just fwd the AM/FM ant. Not sure why it's not in the above pic, may have been in-between mountings.  the CB ant is a super-flex Firestick type by Wilson (I think).

I've been looking at this and drooling a little. Little more than I need, though I do really like the idea of a public safety type console, (would be great to mount a laptop with our SAR mapping software in it.) Nobody makes a proper console for my 02 Chevy Blazer though...

Haha, for some reason my label maker keeps telling me it was a good purchase when I look at that thing. I wouldn't go quite that overkill. I can only forsee three radios, MAX. (Like I said, dual band VHF/UHF, HF, and a P25 UHF.)

Heres a link to my gallery. Its not a totally clean install. I took out the rear seats in the truck (which were useless anyway) and built a bracket to mount an FT-8900R on them. The radio head and mic just sort of "float" around the cab as needed. Ran 10 guage cable from the battery to a rigrunner. Ran coax and power out the cab vent plates up through the bed to the antenna and a diamond device to raise and lower the antenna.

Excuse the dust, this vehicle sees a lot of gravel roads.

I tried to keep everything out of the way, yet accessible.  The mic sits right next to me, and the external speaker can just be seen below it, facing up.

I made a bracket to fasten the radio underneath the dash, where it is out of the way.  The bracket fastens to existing bolts.

Hood mount for the antenna.  I spend a lot of time in the mountains, and and up bending the antenna mount on tree limbs.  I straighten it back out every so often.  It looks better pointing straight up, I just can't keep it that way!

Here is my truck set up.

I have a Yaesu FT-8900 running to a Comet UHV-4.

Here is the face of the unit mounted under my stereo.  All of the wires for the radio run through the dash to the main unit under the front passenger seat.  On the wooden console is a external speaker that provides decent audio.

Here is the radio mounted under the seat.  The power is supplied by 6ga wire going to a PS-75/45-4 - Red-Dee-2 Connect Powerpole Splitter that I can use to power my portable IC-718 rig.

Here is the antenna mounted to the tailgate.  The only issue with it being there is needing to remove it every time I have to lower the tailgate.

Here is the truck powering the IC-718.

Do you have a Blazer or a Trailblazer? Mine is an 04 Trailblazer...only console you can get for it requires the factory console be cut in half. My solution, I keep a Yaesu FT-2900R on the dash, a Icom F221 on the passengers side of the center console with the 5/8 Tram 1150 on the back and a Browning BR-150 on the front above the DVD player. Currently I'm in the middle of moving everything around. The Icom is moving over to my side of the console (it can't be read at night) and a Kenwood TK-981 is going in it's place. The Yaesu and Icom radios are being consolidated through a diplexer to a Comet CA2X4SR on the back of the roof, a Larsen 900 MHz antenna above the DVD player (didn't feel like adding another hole for 900), the Tram 1150 has been installed on a hood channel mount for APRS. Still in the process so no pics right now. The plan was to have the same essential setup when I get a new truck with HF and a screwdriver in the bed (long story short, I've only known full sized trucks and Jeep Cherokees my entire life and can't stand the Trailblazer, but it is reliable). Only other change was to replace the 1150 with my 1180 dual bander (so I can integrate remote start, kill, lights, etc) on UHF as well as build a patch system for all of the radios that would also let me consolidate to one microphone.

My Cherokee is a little less complicated (but I'm still working on it at the moment). Anytone dual band radio remote mounted under the back seat with a CA2X4SR on a hood channel mount and a 1/4 wave VHF antenna on the roof for APRS. That's probably how that one will stay for the next 5 years.

Its an 2002 2Dr 4WD Blazer ZR2.

I actually deicded to go with a simple console, scratch built, with the floor shifter mount built into it, with a 15-30 degree angled part forward of the shifter, and level behind, and spaced to take standard gamber johnson faceplates.

Removing the existing center console is only 5 bolts, and a couple c-clips for hte floor shifter.

Those Kenwood 281's are badass radios.

I have one in the Tahoe and one in the house. The Kenwood runs circles around my Motorola GM300. The Motorola can't even hear some of the repeaters that hit my Kenwood loud and clear.

Here was the setup in the Trailblazer (remember I'm currently moving everything around) before I upgraded from the Icom F221S to the F221.

Here is what the setup in the Jeep could look like…(remember, still working on it).

Here is the current/future antenna setup on the Trailblazer (the 900 MHz antenna is right behind the Onstar antenna).

Here's the Comet on the Jeep (still need to install the 1/4 wave on the roof).

Call me paranoid but I'm just not comfortable with a couple of sheet metal screws in to some plastic holding a 5 pound radio in place during a collision. And mounting it on the dash like that seems to put it right at head level. I pray that it never comes loose but man, it's gonna do some damage if it does.

2m/70cm...   Designed to also transmit on CAP, MARS, etc. for EmComm Use Only

Left Antenna: (Yaesu ATAS-120A)
40m-6m, plus 2m/70cm

Center Antenna: (Hustler 75)
75m...  makes up for the what the ATAS lacks.

It is the Anytone whatever the hell model number is the newest. There's not much to it. Open the cover, and it looks like a Baofeng but bigger. The only thing to really note about them is that the AV and Ext. Sp jacks are opposite of how they are marked. Wish it had banks…other than that the only reason I got it was to have a Part 90 mobile for VHF and UHF.

There are plenty of places for it to vent under that seat. Fan only comes on when it is needed, unfortunately if you leave the radio on in a Texas vehicle the fan will never turn off in the summer.

I have an IC-2820H now, in my CR-Z, and I'm currently in the process of getting it setup. So far I've got the head mounted temporarily with some "Plumber's Wrap" (copper washed steel) and electrical tape, with a single glass-mount antenna. I plan on putting another antenna on the passenger side to take advantage of the receive diversity. No pictures yet, it's too embarrassing how unclean the car is.
