is it too early to talk about Field Day? It's 6/22-23 this year. Last year I hooked up w/ BD and we had a pretty good time. What do you have planned this year? Any arfcomers in the IN/KY/OH area planning a get together? Is this a dupe thread? I'm considering throwing a go-box together w/ my 7K, and doing some remote HF and maybe 2m SSB -- close to home if I can solve this RFI problem... Any plans? -Slice |

If I lived back in KY, I'd join you! I'll be the 40m band captain at W4HFH's field day in Alex, VA. Shameless plugs!!!! 2nd Vid, about 4 min mark, some Poor Sap working on his Orange ETA: enjoyed the vids, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna help set-up, and hang till lunch, plan to go back early Sunday (3am) or work some of the graveyard shift. |

Since I kicked my radio club to the curb (stepped down as President, tired of politics and no one actually wanting to play radio), I am doing Field Day at home this year.
I have a nice big pasture next to the house with plenty of trees for wire antennas (and shade from the Texas sun in June). Plus, the AB-577/GRC mast (http://www.ontariosurplus.com/ab577.htm) will probably get set up. Depending on the turn-out, we will probably have a satellite station with tracking antennas, an HF station, a VHF station, and who knows what else. All loyal ARFCOM Hammers (I like that... it's catchy) in the Galveston County area are welcome. IM for details. |
|
My club is begging me to go and log for our clubs resident CW "expert". No one can stand to be around him. I told them, I would donate a pair of headphones for him. They didn't like my answer.
If I FO I am not going to be a logger. I will log for a while and take turns but damn, if he is so good, he can do both like the rest of us. |

.. will be traveling back home after a week of hunting in Argentina... What are you hunting in Argentina? Doves... these things don't migrate down there... It is estimated that the area where these birds roost, holds some 27 million birds. I've never been down there before, but the guy I'm going with said he has shot 1000 or more in a day... should be fun... Also, southern South America will be cold this time of year... low 40's at night... last chance for some nice weather before the southern heat sets in here :) |

I'd consider driving to Indy... But not down to where Homeslice lives. Me too
I am in EN-71. Looks like it would be a long ways to where you are Homeslice. I'm in EM-79, so that would be a haul. Above was a poor attempt at humor... I figured. We could do a fox hunt for noise if we came down though.... |

Too early to talk about field day??? Hell No!
I have been going to monthly meetings about field day since January since I am on the Field Day committee for my club. I am also running the satellite station comprising of all my own equipment, and bringing some equip for the HF stations. When I am not working satellites, I usually am one of the few that stays up all night since I am the youngest in the club. I am EM79 also btw |
| My plan is to meet up with a friend and fellow ham in IN. He's associated with the EOC in his county and that's where he sets up for the weekend. This will be my first field day. Llast year was the first one I could have participated in but I was busy with work that weekend. |

I singed up to operate both CW and SSB at our local club. Sweet! I love doing 80m CW. It's my fav. I am seriously considering running battery. Need to find a good end-fed wire design. Cool! I may bring my radio and a quiet 1000W Honda generator. |

You should come back over for this one. I think we are going to run either 3f or 4f. We have added a ton of capability and a new 2m repeater. |

My field day plans revolve around this.....
Going to travel 45 minutes into deep wooded forest area, set up camp, and drop a few rounds through the rifle during the day. Suppressed to avoid any unwanted attention, and then once the campfire is lit, fire up the HF and play around the bands a little bit. |
|
I have no plans this year.... the local clubs aren't so welcoming - went last year and operated at night when they were going to be sleeping anyway.... I think 2 guys talked to me. I could have not had my ticket and done the same...
I was thinking of setting up in my backyard for the day - I just need to see if I have time off. nevermind ...... drill weekend
change of plans.... I'm bringing some prospective hams to a field day not far from drill - lose a night of drinking, gain a night of radios.... I'll take it |

I will again be setting up and doing most of the operating on the VHF station for the Goshen Amateur Radio Club. This year we will again be at the Goshen Middle School like last year. I hope 6 meters is like 2 years ago instead of like last year. My contact with Fort Wayne Radio Club turned into a middle of the night rag chew because the band was so dead. They were one of the few clubs I worked on 3 bands. 6 meters, 2 meters and 70 cm. I will probably again take some QRP stuff for demo and to use if one of our HF stations would be off the air for a while. If you are in northern Indiana come out and join us. If not look for us on the air. N9HZ 3A IN |

Quoted: I don't remember who it was. Steve does kinda ring a bell. It was the only contacts for either of us for several hours. Bands were dead and I was just throwing out an occasional CQ between naps. Surprised me when someone answered. He didn't need to tell me it was Fort Wayne Radio Club. I recognized the call.Quoted: I will again be setting up and doing most of the operating on the VHF station for the Goshen Amateur Radio Club. I also made 3 contacts from my 10 watt bike mobile solar powered rig when the CW station was off the air while everyone was eating supper. 15 meters for those. |
|
Quoted: Steve is our club's president, and he loves him some VHF. I looked at the logs earlier and we had 64 6m QSOs. With a ginormous beam at 50 feet. It's a good thing you get 6m for "free. Or it wouldn't be worth it. Last year 6m was dead. Year before it was hopping. One of our best bands. Even worked Japan that time. Japan is unusual on 6 from Indiana. 2011 6meters was second only to 20 meter CW for contacts. Mix was about half cw and half phone on 6 meters. Most of the afternoon I was sitting on 50.137 calling CQ and working better than one contact per minute. |

No joke, this will be my field day, seriously: http://onetractorman.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/dsc04113.jpg Have you installed a radio in it yet? |
|
I'll be operating solo, on battery power from my gun club. I have a small cabin, basically a large shed that's finished off on the inside, yes, my man cave. I set up my g5rv two weeks ago, I got it about 30ft high, which isn't to bad. I love playing radio, but usually start my field day later on in the afternoon, when everything calms down a bit.
I have a role up J-pole I'm going to set up on friday as high as I can get it, and run some 2m simplex saturday evening. bigohio |
