I'm having two issues that I need help with.
First: I have a Yaesu FT-897D transciever, coupled with a SignaLink USB in an attempt to learn digital modes. On the computer (and laptop for portable operation), I have FLDigi. The issue I am having is that when I TX, although the red PTT/RX light comes up on both the SignaLink and the 897, there is no audio whatsoever when listening from my HT. I have verified the jumper pin-out multiple times, and even removed all the jumpers and put them back in properly according to the SignaLink website jumper settings. The audio is coming from FLDigi properly. When I switched my output from the SignaLink, to the PC speakers, I hear the mode perfectly. Second: I can not seem to find a way to decode APRS packets. AGWPE does not recognize the SignaLink, presumably because it's a USB device. That said, I can't get AGWPE/UI-View32 running. If anyone has experience with these issues, I would value any assistance that could be offered. |

Dumb question maybe, but how is your TX level pot set on the front of the Signalink?
Also, check out this section of their troubleshooting doc: radio transmits but power/output too low |

I have same modem. Did you define it in sound properties? If not it will attempt to use the system sound. In FlDigi it's called the "USB Audio Codec".
Another thing I've discovered, if you disconnect the SignalLink before you shut down the app, FlDigi forgets the configuration and you have to go back into Configuration, Modems, Audio and re-define it. I also had to play around with COM ports before it settled into smooth operation as COM1. Now in Digipan, the serial port for PTT is set as "None" -- go figure. In the JT65-HF app, serial port is set as COM1, but I had to enable the checkbox "Use Alternate PTT Method. Only enable this if you have problems with PTT." I also have the TX, RX, and DLY knobs at the 9:00 o'clock position, which would be maybe %20 of full scale. I've got an old Kenwood TS-430 without the digital inputs, so I'm using the mic connection. Your mileage may vary. That's all I can think of. But yeah, I had to fiddle with it a couple of sessions before I figured out the magic settings. Good luck ! It's a great modem. |

Grasping at straws here, but your Tx/Rx level settings sound way high. Could you be overdriving the radio's input and causing some sort of protection mode? Also, what happens when you plug headphones into the monitor jack on the Signalink? If you can't get audio out of the Signalink, I'd next verify that the audio is directed properly in the computer (USB audio), although if I'm reading correctly, you may already have that covered. Edit: Reading through again, I think I'm all wet on all of the above. |

Menu 39 to +1500.
Menu 38 to USER-U. Menu 37 to maximum (for now). Rig set to DIG mode. Rig set to maximum RF power (you will use the Signalink and PC to set transmit power level) AF speech processor, microphone compression, microphone equalizer, IF shift, clarifier, NB, NR, notch filter ALL SET TO OFF OR ZERO. With all that done, first see if you can receive and decode digital signals from the radio. If you can, adjust receive levels, decode some stuff, revel in your minor victory With that done, try transmitting. If that doesn't work, install JP3 inside the Signalink and try it again. Report back with results, please! |
