So with the sale of most of my current station complete, I still have my Yaesu speaker. What other good alternatives are there out there? I am not against keeping my SP-2000 it sounds good, but since the K3 can use diversity RX (with the 2nd RX installed) I am not sure I want to buy a second one when I finally get the subRX.
I want options gents! |

Probably depends on the radio/speaker combo. I use built in speaker or headphones so they're never hooked up directly to the radio, but the computer and speakers are just inches away.
My IC-706 that I had would put RF into the speakers, while the 857d doesn't... |

I'm curious about this, myself. I've just been using the built in speaker so far. It's OK, but has it's limitations. I've done a little research, but am still totally undecided. I'd like something that is good for CW, as well as SSB. If you don't care about intermingling brands the SP-2000 is a great speaker once you put poly-fill inside the case. I just don't know if I want to buy two of them when I get the SubRX |

Yeah, I don't know what to do. I'd like something better than the standard speaker but I don't want to spend a fortune, either. There are other things I would rather spend the money on first.
On a side note, I managed to get Belarus on 15m CW, today. The QSO was more than the standard "599 TU", and he was going a little fast for me. I made a few mistakes, but I managed to muddle through it. Just finished filling out the QSL card. |

In my radio with draw time I am going to be filling out a lot of cards I have neglected to send for. |
| My favorite speaker for HF SSB/CW was put together with parts purchased from (IIRC) Parts Express at a long-ago Dayton Hamvention. Something like a 6 1/2" poly cone midbass driver (with shielded magnet) in a small shelf size box. Wonderful smooth sound for SSB or AM listening, but too bassey for FM. I have a salvaged 8" speaker I've tried out in an improvised enclosure which sounded really nice, but need to find or make a real box for it. Bigger seems to be better when it comes to HF SSB at least IME. |

I might try to mount it on the wall, the only problem is that it's so big on the desk. |

I've found that the audio level of the radio(s) can be lowered without a loss in intelligibility of the spoken word. Listening fatigue is considerably reduced during long sessions of radio work as a result. I gave a pair of those as well (buy mins say RCA on them) They are a good speaker |

No, I mean the cheap speakers on OEM equipment. Why else would one want a better speaker? I knew what you meant. I have the matching speaker for my FT-2000 still the SP-2000. It unfortunately is a $10 speaker in a $150 enclosure. I am tired of all the BS speakers radio manufacturers have come out with. |

I tried a pair of "bookshelf" stereo speakers with my K3 the other day. Didn't like the way they sounded. They are OK with music, but not much good with speaking voices (SSB), even after playing around with the equalizer. I didn't really care for the simulated "stereo" sound either. Unplugged them, and went back to using the stock speaker.

A decent 8" midbass driver in a cheap wall baffle box would beat any factory speaker I've heard, for probably $40-50. Remember that the audio response on SSB only goes up to roughly 2.4kHz. |

This speaker has Great Reviews, however, mfg. web site says it is currently out of stock due to supply problems. I want one. |
