I am on a support team for the Illinois Terrorism Task Force. The team is pretty well equipped, including a couple of nice ham setups in rack cases. One of the kits is an FT-450 with a Pactor box. There are no interface cables, so that is problem number one. Second, after I get the 2 boxes connected, what do I do next? They think that they will be able to get e-mail via HF, but I have no idea how to get this going. I talked to one of the local ham clubs, and they don't have anyone that knows much about it. Anyone have any ideas where I should start? Mike F Pictures of said equipment would be immensely helpful. I wouldn't necessarily need pictures of the rig, but the "pactor" box for sure. |

Winlink has dedicated MARS stations. Talk to your local MARS people. They will fall all over themselves to help. http://www.netcom.army.mil/mars/ http://www.afmars.org/ http://il-mars.com/html/html/about.html |

First thing you do after downloading the operator's manual is to check and see if it has the Pactor III firmware option in it. If not then you probably want to invest in a P3 upgrade for it. |

I use Pactor 3 on an almost daily basis. I ordinarily use it to send/receive WINLINK email using Airmail, but also use it peer to peer and to check a BB. The SCS Pactor modems will do a LOT of stuff. The link below is to the Texas Army MARS training bulletin on Pactor use: https://www.txarmymars.org/downloads/Winlink-Airmail-PTP.pdf You'll never go back. |
