I am a general and now out of work on disability.  Can anyone point me to free study materials for the new extra pool?  I am going to be short on money and long on time very soon, and may as well upgrade.

Thanks!

Worked for me.

To those of you that are Generals and have been putting it off, I wish I had studied harder at first and gone straight to Extra.  There are a LOT of DX frequencies available only to Extras and it helped make my goal of DXCC a lot easier.

HAMTESTONLINE is fantastic.  I studied online for a week and got perfect score on the General.  I think I will start on extra soon.

Much better than preparing using the book!

I've been using this study guide lately.  It highlights or only shows the correct answers so you don't get confused with the incorrect answers.  I follow up with practice tests at qrz.com.  It's working so far.

For my General I just took the test at http://aa9pw.com/ until I passed regularly with high scores.

+1, I used them for Tech and General, and just got a new subscription with them for Extra.

Recognize that you may have to memorize some answers without understanding the reasons or the physics behind it, but understanding the physics will help you always remember and know the answers.

Objective should be understanding not memorizing so avoid site that will not explain the reasons, physics or equations behind the answers and will just make you memorize the answers. you might pass the test but will not remember a thing a month later and that's not what you want as an extra!

As I said earlier HAMTESTONLINE comes close to accomplishing the above objective.  I am an electrical engineer of many years experience so naturally I want more explanations that the site provides, but generally I think for the average person it strikes a nice balance.

this is similar to the route I took.

I did all my levels in one test session though so there was moderate understanding and lot's of memorization cuz I'm lazy and didn't want to go back to another test and the go back again to take a third test

Thanks for this, it is what I am looking for.  I had the ARRL extra guide book for the old question pool.  I've read it twice and aside from two chapters I understood everything.  I am not as worried about reading why everything is the way it is, I just need to down and dirty pass the test.

Thanks for everyones reply, depending on my medical issues I will try and test November 10th.
