KB7DX,
Last year I sent the DSP-232 TNC off for repair and it was not repairable. I enjoyed the attempts to make HF packet connections. Now running a Signalink USB and MiXW. Searching around for another TNC. Maybe we can try the 40 meter packet racket again...? |
|
Yes that will work. I am hitting the hay as I type. I will open MixW in the a.m and turn on..
I have had no success locating a program for Packet / soundcard that has a mailbox? If so I would not need a TNC...MixW is ok but no message handling / storage. Also erected a 40 meter Delta loop fed at the apex about 50 feet up. Works well with coax on 40/20/15, might use 450 ohm balanced in the future. |
| I have what looks to be some raw packets showing up, but not enough to fully decode. Are you trying to connect or is my machine freaking out? I have been prepping for a trip tonight so I havent had alot of time to play around, but will after I get back from this trip. |

Carl,
Noon here in WV and nothing heard on 14.110 USB. What are you using for a 20 meter antenna? If you got some skill I have a Cushcraft R5 missing the MN5 matching network box and one 48 inch whip.. I planned to home brew a 4:1 balun and use my external tuner for it but I like my 40 meter Delta Loop. Besides the wife said no more 'junk' in the air. You can have it if you want to pay the shipping. Should not cost to much in a small box. Let me know.... |
|
Antenna here is the same 40m OCF "Inverted Vee". It is works on 20m without a tuner and is better than my other 20m antenna, a Mosley driven element used alone. Thank you for your generous offer, but I don't think I'll get away with another antenna here. I'm pushing my luck as it is. I've been beaconing every 15 minutes, 50 watts. Have you tried connecting to any stations on the 14.105 Net? |
|
I can connect to several on Network 105 and converse but not much more with Signalink and MixW. Looking at a PK-900 from a local that has been setting in a box for years, maybe I can trade him out of it.
After the two lightening strikes over the past 20 years here I have scaled back the entire set-up. Now just a Delta loop and a simple FT-857D serves my radio time. I will stay on 14.110 USB while at work today.... |
Since you can connect with some stations on Net 105, I'll put mine there too. Maybe you can connect via a digipeat. Find a station that can hear my beacon using the MHeard command to the other station. If I'm on the list, you can connect to me via that station sometimes, or, disconnect from him and type " C KB7DX-1 v (other station). This will use the other station as a digi-peater. Packets will take twice as long to go through being repeated, but it works....sometimes.

| I am not sure there are commands on the MixW software for HF Packet utilizing Signalink USB?, I will check this afternoon after work. I will have the PK-900 on the air in the near future, once I find cables and manual for it. The old laptop I was using last year with the late DSP-232 succumbed shortly afterwards. |
|
That's fine. The past two days i have been tied down with work and lawn / home duties.
I did pick up the PK-900, it seems the internal battery needs replaced but so far no success using XP Hyperterminal to communicate with the PK-900. I also tried the ROC software that I purchased last year and once again zero happiness ... Will try later agian this week when off call. |
|
Not only the lawn but all of those leaves that my neighbors refuse to pick up and blow in m yard!...errrr.
By the way since you did not want the ole R5 I spent sometime finding and manufacturing some make shift parts and wound a 4:1 balun. The swr was close to specs except for 10 meters ..the tuner will be needed there once I find more time to climb the tower and mount this one. |

Not bad, just checked..2.5 at 28.300 and 2.95 at 29.600.
My MixW software free trial expired today..bummer. I will work on the PK-900 and this laptop communication error. I would be nice if I could find a software program that offered HF packet with a message system, most of us would not need a TNC with the ancient 25 pin on the back and a laptop or PC with a 9 pin serial port. This is the issue I am having now, my wife's laptops which runs Windows 7 with 64 and my Belkin 9 pin serial to USB needs the older 32 'watch ya call it' ...to early in the a.m to think clearly. Any suggestions... |
