I'm going to try and score my general license tomorrow at the Howard County Fairgrounds ( http://www.carafest.org/ ). What documentation will I need to bring to take the test?

I have the license I received from the FCC and my drivers license. Will it matter if my mailing address differs between the two?

Our LOCAL VE's ask that you bring

* Picture ID
* $15.00   (preferably exact change)
* Any CSCE's (certificate of completion's).  First time testers will not have this.
* Original license and a copy of license.   First time testers will not have this.

Not sure if that is what they do Everywhere?

Good Luck BTW!!!!

ETA: My DL has Permanent St Address, my FCC Licenses shows my PO Box...

Not sure if the address has to match on your ID and your ham license.  You need to have a copy of your FCC license as well as the original, as well as the proper ID that they require.  You surrender the copy of your FCC license, as they submit that with their paperwork I believe.

- Drivers license or other photo ID. To prove you are who you are. Or the Popeye analogy "I yam what I yam".
- $15. Cash or check. My VE group doesn't care.
- Copy of your FCC license.
- Your original FCC license.
- Any CSCE issued within the last year.

Yeah we ask for ID but it pretty much means the photo more or less looks like you and the name you sign in with matches the name on the ID.

As for the FCC address being different from the drivers license address, not an issue. My drivers has my street address and the FCC has my PO box. All the FCC cares about is that you have a current and valid mailing address somewhere. We'll get the FRN number off your FCC license copy and plug that into the application.

The copy of your FCC license will be submitted with the rest of your paperwork. That document proves you've passed previous elements.

OBTW something we've been doing with newly licensed hams. When a candidate passes his first element we have a VE bring over a netbook and get him registered with the FCC and obtain a FRN number on the spot. That number is then plugged into the application. That way the candidates SSN isn't plastered on the application for who knows how many people to see. You can get a FRN number on your own even before you test. That's what I did.
