So does anyone do that?  I discovered my 2m Kenwood (same mic cable w/TS50) would work with my Signalink USB this afternoon...so now I'm curious....anyone? and what mode would be most effective?

thx
SCW

eta: I don't have a 2m SSB rig.......

I was doing packet with my HT back when I first became a ham.  I actually connected to the packet BBS on the MIR space station once.  But I guess that's not the
digital mode that you are talking about.

as always I kinda screw up the question.......

I know it can be done, I was curious in regards to our Digital Net...and in what way it could be used locally, as in what mode would work best in those parameters...sorry, I still may be making no sense.

eta: the MT63 mention helped!

Try DominoEx. Getting ready to set up a simplex net. I have a cheapie VOX radio shack headset that im going to tie into a RJ11 or RJ45 plug or what ever is on my FT2900. We are going to try mobile horizontal beams.

After a many many nudges my club finally took a look at using digital for emcomm stuff. Then a few more nudges and they are hooked on fldigi. We did flmsg the other night, that was cool.

A few in the local area are experimenting with PSK31 through Fldigi and messaging with Flwrap. Done simplex as well as through the repeater.

I do know it is being done in other parts of the country but locally it's still in the infant stage.

After doing psk125 you wont want to do 31. Most of our traffic has been cut/paste or macros and 125 is soo much faster.

yummy....

so, now I wondering....Netbook meet Wouxun while picnicking at the park?

ETA: what did we do before the net?

Yep VERY doable!   Just keep in mind duty cycle issues.     I used to do old fashioned RTTY on 220 FM on a IC-37A, exchanging some big files among some of the guys around town.   Finals held up just fine but some components in the RX audio section were not quite up to snuff and failed (those rigs get pretty darn hot inside for a little 25W radio).    Replaced the bad parts with bigger parts and all was fine.

Funny you should metion this.I forgot I'm going to build an interface for the FT2900; I have a FDC160, FDC460 and Icom 4SAT that the VOX radio shack  head phones fit, The 4sat doesnt have tone so its no good for repeaters.

I  also have a couple of radio shack MURS hts. I wonder how far you could get out of ther 2 watts? Way more than voice.

If you are going to run a 2900 in any sort of extended transmit make SURE you put a cooling fan on the heatsink. They are notorious for running very very hot if you transmit for long periods.

SSTV will work too. Heck, any digital AFSK mode will work on VHF or UHF FM. Look into AMSAT and work some "birds". I think the PACSAT is still active which is basically a flying e-mailbox.

Yup they sure do. Thought of running a Motorolla 100 watt amp I have. It only needs 5-10 watts input.

I used to swap SSTV images with some friends every Sunday night on 2 meters. Worked just dandy.

Thaat was using a laptop in my jeep with no radio interface....just the speaker and the microphone.
