I recently started listening to my local sheriffs dispatch freq. And I have been blown away by how many stupid calls they have to answer. Today I heard

One trailer house was running a extension cord to another and the caller was afraid a kid might trip over it

I work on an ambulance, and what you heard is pretty typical of emergency response. We occasionally get good calls, but for the most part, it's crap.

I'm pretty harsh with my judgments of LEO's but after a week of hearing these calls I almost feel sorry for them. Yesterday they had to go to a call where a 14yo babysitter ate a bunch of food and didn't want to pay the family back.

I lost count of how many "he's on my yard" calls.

Without firsthand experience, you wouldn't believe the kind of stupid, petty shit that people think is a police matter. There literally would be no Constitution left if we let a lot of these people make laws directly.

That's why I enjoy living where I do. We handle things without calling any Leo. I don't mean in a violent way either. Everybody knows who the crazy man on the block is. :)

I'm a dispatcher. What you might hear on the radio is just a tiny fraction of the stupid calls we actually receive every day.

My gf dispatches too. She wades through the stupid too. It's funny to watch her chew someone's ass for calling 911.

Right now, there are 600 cases of West Nile disease in the Dallas area with 11 deaths. People are calling 911 when they get bit by a mosquito now.

I am a firefighter/emt, when we pull dispatch its in a consolidated dispatch with a police officer dispatcher. the funny (and really good ones) calls you rarely hear over the radio, Its usually "can you give dispatch a land line"

See if you can find your local HEAR (Hospital Emergency Alert Radio) frequency. Sometimes you can get some fun reports of what the whambulance is bringing in...

the following is so bizarre that i couldn't even make it up...

i'm driving around in town and my 2m radio stops scanning on the local PD:

"car 42, contact homeowner at 123 main street for vandalism report"
"dispatch, car 42 enroute."
"42, update for you on 123 main street"
"dispatch, go ahead."
"42, homeowner states that they arrived home and it looks like someone tried to break into their septic tank and that the vandal may still be in area"
"dispatch, physical description?"
"42, no further information."
"dispatch, advise homeowner that my ETA is 5 min."
... 5 mins later ...
"dispatch, 42"
"42, go ahead"
"dispatch, homeowner showed that the plastic cover on the septic tank is cracked ... standby."
... 2 mins later ...
"dispatch, make a note for this report please."
"42, go ahead".
"dispatch, homeowner stated that they have a landscape service.  homeowner was advised that the grass looks like it was cut today, and based on the tread marks on the septic tank cover it appears that the landscape service broke the cover while cutting the lawn.  suggested that homeowner contact landscape service.  42 clear."
"42, noted."

one of our FD's got alerted today for a flooding basement. the homeowner called 911 and said she needed the FD because the water was almost up to her freezer. she thought we would come pump out her basement in the middle of a day long downpour.

I dispatch as well.  Our entire county is on same computer system.  Looking through log of activity today

One agency took a report of a Girl Scout Sign stolen.   The one for saying sign up for Girl Scouts.

Best one of the night for one of the agencies I dispatch for tonight, Stolen Golf Cart from the Marina folks, which turned into Drunk Driving arrest of person that stole the golf cart when golf cart was found downtown.  It was great.

OP, you have no idea...

It gets real old day in and day out, especially when you have calls coming in that are an actual emergency but the stupid crap complains when they have to wait 30 mins for the police to arrive.
