My brother recently passed and he was a ham radio operator.  He was reclusive and I don't know much about his hobby.  I'm hoping someone can help me with two things.  First, I would like to have an operator maybe give his call sign a send off to the other operators out there.  I know you all are a tight knit group and think it would be appropriate.  Second, I need to find out what his equipment is worth, as I am trying to raise funds to help for travel for his daughter and grand kids to come to his service.   If someone would like to step up I will get you my email and we can chat off forum.  Lastly, my brother was a chronic alcoholic and it took his life.  I spent the better part of the day in his apartment (where his body was found) and it was quite traumatic.  If you have a loved one with a drinking problem, don't hesitant to step in help them.  We tried but in hindsight I wish we had done more.  I am scarred for life at what we found in his apartment.  We filled two dumpsters with empty beer cans and whiskey bottles.  My sister and I broke down many times as we envisioned the last months of his life.  Thanks.

Very sorry for you loss, your brother is what we call a "silent key".

Very sorry for your loss.  Anytime we have a SK(Silent Key) it's not a good day.  If you would like to IM the model numbers of his equipment, I can help provide an approximate value.  I'm sure many other hams here will step forward to help as well.

ETA: I can get the neccessary information to notify the ARRL (like the NRA of hams) of his passing.  Do you know his call sign?  IM me either his call or his name and location, and I can get it.

Another thought....beware of anyone offering you a lump sum for your brother's equipment.  Unfortunately there is a group of individuals looking for silent keys in an attempt to purchase their equipment well below value from the family.

ETA: put request to move to ham section.

Thank you, if you could email me offline I would be appreciative.  [email protected]
I will get his call number some how in the next few days.  I think his equipment is old but who knows. He has a base unit and a hand held. Thanks again

I posted a half hour ago.  I have received several responses including one from a gentleman who tracked down my brother and his call sign.  You guys are awesome!   God I love these forums.  Gentleman, this is what made our country great.  Individuals helping each other.  I didn't need any fucking government agency to help me.  I went to my patriot brothers and they responded.  This is how it suppose to be.  Thank you all.
