Welcome to the ham forum! I don't think we have a dedicated "how-to" for the digital modes thread, but wht questions do you have?
Maybe we should start a digi how-to..hmm.
Randy, K7AGE has some educational vids on 'the tube.

main idea is to somehow build a digital net for all us arfcommers.  maybe even integrate it to the mothership.  would that be possible?

I have a bit of digital comms training (EC135 looking glass comms maint tech pipeline tech school) plus do cisco routing/switching for a living but know nothing about it related to amatuer

it's what I used to break myself in!

those make it make sense!!!

DigiPan (for PSK31) and FLDigi (Olivia ARFCOM Net) are the 2 software programs I use (search and they are free)

ETA: you can use the FlDigi Program to decipher the weekly ARFCOM net on Wed nights if you have an appropriate receiver just like Randy shows in his vids using PSK31

We have a weekly digital net on Weds evenings. Here is alink to the thread. We tried packet (a form of digi comms) a few months back but there weren't enough people on to make it work. Packet requires a pretty good signal to be effective. We have found however, that Olivia 16/500 (another digi-mode) works pretty well even with weak signals. i don't know how you would interface it with "the mother ship".

PSKmail actually allows web pages to me mailed to you, but I think "mother ship" interfacing wouldn't be practical due
to bandwidth constraints. Unfortunately it uses modes that aren't as robust as olivia. (Was interesting last net night
comparing Olivia 500/16 v. PSK125's speed v. copy.)

The Texas Army MARS website has some great 'digital mode tutorials' as well as other great info. Check out the 'Basic Sound Card Training' document.

I, personally, do a lot of MT63, Olivia, and peer-to-peer Pactor....and a little PSK. MT63 is pretty reliable and faster than Olivia. Pactor smokes them all but requires a 'proprietary' modem for Pactor II & III. Pactor 4 is now out, but I don't forsee spending the dough for a new modem when III works as well as it does.

This and his other PSK vids is what got me interested in digi modes. Set up a few macros and you'll be making contacts in no time.
