I've read it and still don't get it....

Talks about 1000 with endorsements in increments of 500...    ok...   after 1000?  and, what exactly qualifies...   the numbers in LoTW are not making sence to me...

Anybody up on this??

Using LoTW for DXCC is still requires 100 different entities for a basic DXCC award. The same DXCC rules still apply for LoTW electronic QSL's.

You might have read about the DXCC challenge....another paper chase you can do with LoTW.

DXCC Challenge

The DXCC Challenge Award is given for working and confirming at least 1,000 DXCC band-Entities on any Amateur bands, 160 through 6 meters (except 60 meters). Plaques can be endorsed in increments of 500. entities for each band are totaled to give the Challenge standing. Deleted entities do not count for this award. All contacts must be made after November 15, 1945. QSOs for the 160, 80, 40, 30, 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 and 6 meter bands qualify for this award. Bands with less than 100 contacts are acceptable for credit for this award. Certificates are not available for this award.

Here is my take on the DXCC challenge.  It is a points based system.  For every country you work on each band, 160-6 you get a point.  So for every country there is a chance to get 10 points.  There are some exceptions, however.  Not knowing them all off the top of my head, but for instance Egypt can't use 160 so they are only good for 9 points.  LoTW and Cards can be used, but for the cards to count they must be checked by an ARRL card checker. I hope this explains everything for you.

Thanks for the replys...  that does clarify the numbers I see in LoTW...  still cant say they numerically make sence, but..   400 or so recent DXCC entity contacts only gave me 70 or so additional points towards the challenge...   not sure i'm going to be able to make this add up in my head...  maybe there are more dups in the log than I thought....

I'm really thick sometimes.... that does work out pretty close...   if 30% of the contacts use LoTW, that would be in the 70 range... sometimes it just take me a while...

I have 285 points in LOTW ( I have only been DXing for a year) and have some 1656 QSOs in the system with 567 of them confirmed at the moment.  I have several dupes because modes do not count.  For example I wanted to work PV8ADI on 15 cw this past week because his fist was so damn good. I already have Brazil on every band 160-6 so that did not count for anything. Give it time.  I figure 1000 points to get the certificate should take about 8 years.  Remember things get so much slower as the numbers go higher.  I have not worked an all time new one since the Yemen expedition and I have been on the radio at least 2 hours a day 5 days a week.

Only one contact per country per band, but there is no limit to how many countries in any one band.

LOTW Stats

50,970Users are registered in the system
76,507Certificates are active

These are the current numbers for hams that use LoTW.

I wish more DX stations would use it.....I suppose they are too busy collecting those green stamps from paper chasers.

50,000 is a small number... smaller than I would have guessed....

Yeah, I kinda wonder about the profit margin of some DX stations. Here and there I've run across one who asks for an IRC AND two green stamps. I throw the BS flag and don't play their game. There are ethics in DXing and that is way over the line.

FWIW: Paper QSLs that are submitted for DXCC do count for Challenge.

Do any of you guys use Club Log?  It keeps track of your DXCC slots in a nice spreadsheet-looking graphical form.  Worked, confirmed, everything by band and country.  Those slots = challenge points.

I've just finished uploading all of my logs to HRD Log, Club Log, and LOTW.  Everything since last October that is, and it's been a lot of work.  I have paper logs going back to 2005 and the really old ones from the late 70's and early 80's, but they will stay paper.

I use HRD Log for the cool map it generates, Club Log for the cool DXCC slot chart, and LOTW for confirmations that I don't do by paper.

Still trying to do everything as efficiently as possible.  The only real pain so far is having to manually update the LOTW confirmations in my logging program (HRD Logbook) so Club Log is updated by the ADIF I send there.
