Hey all!! Just passed the tech test a few days ago and picked up the book for the general next month.
Now the question. How long does it take for the licence to be posted on the FCC sight? How long does the hard copy to arrive in the mail? I was told it should only be a couple days to be posted and I guess I'm just getting anxious to start. Hope I'm doing the search correctly! Thanks. |

It can take up to 2 weeks, but mine was around 5 days. The paper license I would not worry about, once you are in the ULS you are good to go. You can expect the license in around 30 days. Of course it depends on when/how the VE team sends the info to the FCC, but new calls are usually on the ULS within a week. And these days the paper tickets come out pretty quick too, arriving just a few days later. A far cry better than it was in the '70s - '80s!. |

First, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Next, I took and passed the tests on a Saturday morning, was listed the following Thursday, and had the paper license the following week. The last test session I administered, test given on a Tuesday night, all of the paperwork doublechecked Wednesday morning, and Thursday afternoon the applicants were listed on the FCC site. New hams are given top priority. For new hams I am allowed to email copies of the various forms and paperwork to W5YI, and they start processing immediately. Of course, the hard copies are mailed in anyway, but they process with the emailed scans anyway in order to get the new ham on the air as quickly as possible. Hams upgrading can operated legally with their new privileges right away, as long as they already have a license, and have their CSCE (yellow copy) forms in hand. For them, it takes a little longer, as W5YI begins the processing when they receive the hard copies. Anyway, congrats and a very big welcome to ham radio! 73, AFM |
