An old J-38. Google or e-bay. They run about $30 if you don't get carried away.

I went with an Ameco K-4 and the aluminum base.

Nice and heavy

Definitly want something heavy and solid. Someone gave me a MFJ-557 practice key. I ended up taking the speaker off, and just using the key hooked to the radio. Rarely do CW, but it's nice for tuning and getting the amp dialed in. It's way too light to use for serious CW...would bounce all over the place.

I need to find a nice heavy straight key somewhere.   I have a set of Kent Paddles that I bought years ago when I had money and they are great but I really like a straight key too.
