HELP!!

Anybody have any experience with the Commander software for the Yaesu FT60R?

I can't seem to get it to work...keeps going into ERROR.  Tried the alt write method as suggested, but no go.

Tried deleting and re-installing the software...still no go.

Am I not getting the driver installed...how do I tell

Do I need to open and save a file before...after...

Someone  Anyone  Hold my hand

Maybe I really am dumber than the machine.  GIGO.

Do a read from the radio, close the resulting file, then do a write with the correct file.  It still may take several tries.

Yaesus & the Commander software are picky about this.  Ask me how I know...

Use Alternate Write Mode under the Transfer Menu Button.  Works for me every time.

Driver problem with the cable (Prolific).

COM port problem.

Connector not FULLY inserted in HT.

Does the program READ from the radio?

Went through this with my VX5R.  Program OK once you get it going. Not as user friendly as RT Systems, but it is FREE.

Another +1

I use this software for my wouxun HTs and everything has to be set just right.  Since my programing cable is USB and most programs interface through serial ports I run a port program that interfaces the usb port to think its a serial.  Any ways I use an old laptop for programing.  It has one serial port and two USB  ports.  Mine has to be set serial 1 to serial 1 and USB 1 to serial 2 through the interface program... That is on top of using the commander software.  I figured all this out by playing a lot of ring around the rosie- lets program the radioie

I've foiled by the connector issue on many radios.

OP - did you ever figure this out?

Nope...

Kinda pissed me off, so I thought I had better play at it again later...

Later isn't here yet.  I've gone "back" to this issue 2-3 times in the past with no luck.  Guess its a good thing

that I don't rely on it.  Maybe someday somebody will explain it in VERY simple terms for me.

Still not sure how to tell if the correct driver is installed or not.

I'm sure its just operator error though...not equip./software issues.

What OS are you running? Windoz?

First plug in the radio to the cable and turn the radio ON.
Make sure the computer is on. The software can be running at this point.
Now plug the usb cable into the computer.
#you should see the tx rx lights on the radio flicker
On the commander software goto 'transfer' > read from your radio
#now the lights will really flicker

Do those steps and let us know. If you can read from it then the com port is good but if not we can trouble shoot them.

Ok...here we go again...

followed all of the above instructions  (yes, running windows vista.)

next:  tx rx lights on radio NOT flickering...

went to transfer on the software, followed the prompts of turning on radio while holding monitor button, turning to clone, pushing f/w button,

clicking "ok" to close the window, then pressing ptt button.

At this point radio screen says "TX" for a brief moment then shows"ERROR".....again.  Also tried the same sequence in alt. write method...same results.

This is the same point I get pissed and turn it off and put it away again.

(BTW, the software is set to com7, as is the compy saying it is set to com7)

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!

Where did you get your usb to serial adapter? Does it show up as a prolific device? If so you may have been a victim of a counterfeit prolific chip from china. And if you updated the drivers prolific basically made it where that adapter will not work unless you roll back the drivers. If you decide to replace the adapter go with a FTDI chipset one.

Ok so the software is set to com7 but is your serial converter mapped to com7?

Start > right click computer > manage > new window pops up

On the left there is a tree view.

Computer managment > system tools > click on device manager

Now in the main window a new tree view go 3/4 the way down to "Ports (COM & LPT)"

Drop it down and inside will be the com port your converter is mapped to. The software needs to match that.

This is what I had to do to fix the same issue for my KG-UV2D.  I almost chucked my puter out the window before I figured it out.

Checked all these...did all this...

still nothing.  Updated the driver...nothing.

Wonder if it might be the software itself?  it was downloaded from the i-net.

When SW is started I can't move around the fields by clicking on them, to fill in the blanks.

Again:

...and again:

OK I have commander for my vx-7r. You can not fill in the fields until you have read a codeplug to manipulate.

Lets start with what kind of cable are you running? <––-brand cable...home built or store bought.

Is it serial or USB?

Lets get you thru this one step at a time.

I just fired up an old PC that I had used with Commander on my VX-7R a year ago.  Saw a config file on my desktop named YESSSS and thought of this thread.  First one I was able to get from and send to the radio.  It was that difficult to get going the first time for me too.

I should also add, my problems have already been described in this thread.

Cable not screwed into rig - yes

Prolific USB to serial driver problems - yes

I knew enough to check the com port at least.

OK...just home from off-duty job...thought I'd check the forum.

The cable is made in china...got it off fleabay with a small cd with drivers on it,  to make sure the cable fit into the radio, I trimmed a little of the plastic

off so the plug would be sure to go all the way in.

It is a USB cable.  I checked the SW and the usb are on the same com port.  I

I now know about the sw not letting me move about the fields NOW, due to another post above.

I sure appreciate you guys helping me with this!!

FN...still

OK so someone has posted already how to go into your device manage to check and confirm the driver is installed and your using the correct port. So we've covered that.

What you have said has tipped me off it may be the cable your using. I tried one of those vertex cables that your speaking of. I also had the same problem as you. I ended up purchasing a cable from RT Systems that has the extended collar that allows you to install that connector right down into the radio. I hate to say it, but I think the problem is the cable you are using.

If you think it is the cable check http://www.valley-ent.com/catalog/yaesu-vx170-radio-programming-cable-ftdi-chipset-p-220.html It has a FTDI chipset and I have not had a single bad cable from them.
