Is there a way to make DM780's waterfall look more defined like DigiPan?

There is a way to change the waterfall color and smoothing, you will find though Digipan will show more signals on the waterfall than DM780 but the weak ones it will not be able to decode. If you go into the options in DM780 there is a waterfall tab that you can customize.

DM780's waterfall is probably the worst looking of them all, even though it has a great many options to control it's appearance. That said, modem performance is where it counts. DM780 modems are damn good, except for the MT63 mode, where it really sucks. Normally I like Fldigi, but for PSK and RTTYM the modems in DM780 are the best.

When I first stated into digi modes I used digipan, the problem was there was a ton of activity on the waterfall but the decode was hit or miss on the weaker signals. DM-780 I would see less on the waterfall, but if I could see it, i could decode enough to understand it.

I have digipan as a backup, it is a fine program. I am very pleased with HRD bloatware.

ETA: I like the way PSK signals look on JT-65HF.

You can adjust the input level, which changes the waterfall appearance a lot by just that one adjustment.

You want high enough audio input to be able to see the weakest signals, but not so much the whole waterfall lights up.  You still want it to have good contrast with the week signals.

There are also places to adjust colors used.
