I was listening to a few guys on 75m last night. They were "sending a picture" to each other. When they did, there'd be about 2 minutes of what sounded like a loud diesel generator running. I was screwing around w/ DM780 trying to get the pic, but never could figure it out. Presumably they were using one of the SSTV modes. Seems like a useful capability to have (send/receive a pic). Has anybody ever done this that can shed some light on how to do it? -Slice |

There is a pile of free software available http://www.tigertronics.com/sl_soft.htm that will work with your sound card or interface. It not all that difficult, I used to do SSTV with a Commodore 64. There is an outfit featured in the last QST that makes a self contained camera module that outputs SSTV directly. Basically load the software, determine the mode, tune in and decode just like any other digital mode. Same to transmit.
Maybe we need to have a SSTV net one night for grins. |

Some locals guys were talking SSTV just a few min ago, they told me about this site:
MMSSTV YMMV....... |

Quoted: Quoted: I've been playing w/ both DM780 and MMSSTV and I can't get either of them to decode a damn thing. I'm sure I'm doing something simple wrong There's a couple of guys sending pics back and forth on 7.173 now, but I just can't figure it out. you in USB? No, LSB (same as their conversation). Do I need to switch to USB for the pics? |

I've done a bunch of SSTV, although 99% of it was on 2 meters. The only real trick to it is finding the correct mode settings. Seems we had the easiest time using Robot 36. If you want to try and recieve it, all you need is a laptop with a built in microphone....If it can 'hear' your radio speaker, it can decode it. One may need to scan through the various available modes until you find the correct one. I have also sent SSTV by just holding my radio's microphone close to my laptop's speaker....works just dandy. "We don't need no steenking interface!!" |

Thanks guys... The guys on 40 were definately using a different mode than this, the sound isn't at all the same... I agree, I couldn't get anything they were sending.... Same for me. HomeSlice - Thanks for the heads up on 14.230. As I said... that was the first time I've received an SSTV transmission so I guess that counts as a new mode for me |
I think they would be great for remote target viewing. Would beat a spotting scope by a mile!
