New Ft-60.
I monitored the simplex fqcy all the way home yesterday hooked up to the diamond stuck onto the roof. Only heard a little something while going over the mooutains. I can understand that as I do not think a whole lot of people use simplex. WHen I got home I shut it off brought the rig inside. I just turned it on and the LCD screen is blank. The lamp works and when I push and hold the #1 button it goes onto the WX channels, but the damned screen is blank... WTF???? ANyone got any ideas? I checked the battery on my meter and it is 7+ volts. WHat in the wide, wide world of sports is a goin' on here? |

You might have to do a factory reset. Vulcan94 This is good. How in the name of Sam Hill can I do that if I can't see the damned screen. I am getting so damned pissed off at that little bastard that I have half a mind to carefully place everything back in the packing, place the components into the box, making sure they are properly organized and then running the whole thing over with a bulldozer so it can't rob me of my sanity any longer. I am beginning to think that two meter is the domain of the high tech geek of which I am NOT. |

Hold the monitor switch while you turn it on, if you still get no display then just hit the F/W key. If that doesn't do it, you can cycle through the other reset level with the dial:
Rotate the DIAL knob to select one choice from the reset menu: F1 SETRST:Resets the Set (Menu) mode settings to their factory defaults. F2 MEMRST:Clears the Memory settings to factory defaults. F3MBRST: Clears the Memory Bank Assignments. F4 ALLRST:Clears all memories and other settings to factory defaults. Since it's new, it may have fallen to the crib death syndrome that happens to some electronic stuff. If it lasts past the first 2 weeks then it lasts 20 years. |

That sucks. I hate buying something new and having to send it back right away. Fortunately (knock on wood) I haven't ever had to do that with ham gear. Computers & TVs a few times, and once a scanner which Uniden took care of with minimal hassle.
My newly acquired FT-60 is working alright so far. I have it all programmed for my regular destinations & points in between, probably will have a road trip & a good burn in next week. Locally we have more repeaters than users I think. VHF/UHF is very quiet so I have to get out of town to catch some real traffic. |

Computers & TVs a few times, and once a scanner which Uniden took care of with minimal hassle. It does suck, but it's not limited to Yaesu in general or the FT-60 specifically. (I have an FT-60 and it works well.) Most of you guys have probably seen the pics I've posted of my custom OD painted Icom IC-7200. I bought it new over the internet from AES in Orlando and had it sent directly to the guy that painted it for me in nearby Lakeland, FL. After it was painted, the guy noticed the display was intermittently flaking out. He used his contacts from his Icom painting contract for the Camo IC-7200 advertisement to directly call the HMFIC of Icom's service dept. They FedExed it at their expense from AES in Orlando to Seattle for repair and back to Orlando so the painter could touch up any scratches to the OD paint the service dept may have done. Then they FedExed it to me in Indy. All this happened after I payed for the radio and custom paint and before I ever got to even see my new toy. It delayed me getting the IC-7200 by more than 2 weeks. It doesn't usually happen this way, but sometimes Murphy shows up and kicks you in the groin.
