OK to start off I have DCS/CTCSS channelization off on all 4.

Got a pair of midlands that work flawlessly together.  Same thing for pair of motorolas that I bought b/c they added repeater function in.  Both of the motorolas can key up and Tx to the midlands, and the midlands Rx fine.  But if a midland keys up and TX's, either the motorolas will not even break squelch or the motorola will break squelch with a lot of wierd annoying clicks.

?

This is ancient technology - simple analog narrowband FM on a discrete freq.  What is going on?

Update.

Scanner receives all 4 fine.  Guess its the Motorola's that are out of spec since the scanner hears the Midlands just fine

I'm going to go with Motorola and Midland number the frequencies differently.
Say, 462.550 (a GMRS freq] is channel 1 on the Moto and the Midland starts with 462.5625 on the FRS channels first.

Because the FRS and GMRS channel frequencies are interleaved and often included together on one radio, when the radios are at close range you can get some bleed over.

Maybe the Midlands are severely misaligned?

How close are you to the radios when you're testing this? You could be seeing a de-sense issue, or receiver overload. It probably was more expensive that Motorola wanted to make those radios to fix that. Have you tried being 50 yards or more apart with the radios?

i had similar issues years ago between audiovox, midland and motorola frs/gmrs radios. certain freqs just simply wouldn't work between them. one of many reason i said to hell withese radios and went ham. life has been much better ever since, and frankly cheaper when you figure the number of failed radios i was getting.
