It's that time of year again.  Jamboree on the Air is this weekend.  If you hear someone calling "CQ Jamboree", please answer them.  It might be too late to arrange for a local Troop to visit your shack so they can try HAM radio.  You can help by talking to other stations that are hosting Scouts, though.  You can find more information here:  Jamboree On The Air.

I really like boy scouting, I spent a lot of time as a kid camping and working on merit badges, it was actually my first introduction to Ham Radio as well.

the local troops suck though, 2 years ago we set up for JOTA, had all these troops say they were interested in camping and radio for the weekend, and not a single person showed up. the same with field day 2 years running. they have had their 3 strikes and the local club is done with them.

not very trustworthy :/

hopefully ill get to talk to some of the guys, im goign to set up today just to see if any are still on.

When you say you had the troops lined up to participate, was that with the adults or the Scouts?  The boys are supposed to be running the troop, so the 'sell' has to made directly to them.  The adults are just there to drive.

The yearly camping/activity schedule is usually made out in the spring for the next year, so getting on it takes advance planning.  JOTA is not generally on the radar unless someone in the district is a HAM.

I heard one ongoing QSO between 2 scouts, not sure where or who (came along in the middle) but they were discussing School, activities, and of course Scouts.  I was pressed for time, and never tried to break in.  Though it was refreshing to hear 'kids' on the air.

thanks for the heads up-
