It is with a heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of Capt. Hugh Vales.  It appears that he passed away peacefully  in his sleep while watching TV at his home last night.   The family has not finalized arrangements with Haverstock Funeral Home in Laporte yet.

So sorry to hear this.  Hugh and I often talked on ham radio and about ham radio.  We had discovered that we lived exactly 40 miles apart.  We live straight east of him.   He will be missed.

He was still an active poster.

I pay too much attention to avatars and not enough to name.  RIP

If you have to lose a friend, this is certainly better than withering away in the hospital.

Me too. That's why I posted the pic. I probably wouldn't have noticed if I didn't have a few of his QSL cards. I'm bad with names.

Hugh's QSL card was my very first, and now my most treasured. I accidentally damaged it while opening the envelope, but I guess I'll never get a chance to ask him for a new one.

Very sorry to hear of Hugh's passing. I enjoyed talking to him on HF as well as the Echolink net in years past.
