hello all:
I have a FT60 HT and have had it for about 4 years. great radio.

the problem i'm having is when I key up on simplex or repeater freq's the radio power downs, then powers up right a way. the radio reads full charge. 8.1 volts.  could I have a week battery after 4 years? I've used it a lot. I would think the volts wouldn't be as high if the battery was shot, but i bet the amps just arn't there anymore.
am i right? I need a new battery?
I should buy a AA adapter to check this out.

thanks guys, i check in here every day, don't post a lot.  used to few years ago.
have a good week, Traprmike, KC0xxx out of MN area.

sounds like the battery is shot to me. does your radio have the power plug on the side? if so go pick up a battery holder from radio shack and buy the correct adapter and see what happens. ar-jedi has pics on here some where of his setup.

Could an antenna problem cause a high swr causing the reboot?

Sounds like the battery is crashing it.   Can't supply the current needed to run it while transmitting.  I also suggest external power source.

You could try and put a meter on it somehow, and key it, and see what the meter drops to.
