Well I know we've tried nets on here with varying degrees of success. People have express concerns about being able to share info in the event of a communications disruption. It has been something I have thought about alot and I've come up with a few ideas.
1. Needs to be simple as reasonably possible. 2. Trying to incorporate one frequency to acheive one big happy net for everyone in the US inst going to happen, probably a more regional approach with someone elected/volunteer as a regional head or people of that region knowing how to contact other regions to pass that info 3. This goes with idea number two, inter-communication between regions could use NBEMS and voice, where voice wont work digital will. 4. Nets for the region should practice voice and data. I have been doing this here with some guys in the state and even participated with other groups in NY and PA. We've had some pretty good success and its pretty informal and relaxed. I've never really been good at organizing, but if people are interested and willing to help I think we could maybe get together on Skype...or on here to figure some stuff out. Really doesn't need to be a huge time commitment here and it could be totally up to the states/regions if they want a weekly or monthly type thing. It would really be interesting to see how it works, I just know I can't do it all on my own. Maybe people on here that are smarter than me could come up with a schedule that makes sense on how to get regional info to other regions. That info could be during practice sessions just who checked in and what was said. That info then could be placed here for everyone to see how well the nets are going. Don't know we could also let this thread sink into the abyss. |

I've posted a roll call in the Carolina HTF, was considering proposing something similar to them once we got everyone checked in. Maybe this is a good idea. Each of us should start by posting a roll call in their HTF? I think I did this before and only got 2 people |

I think that we should take a page out of the so-called "wilderness protocol".
We could call it the "SHTF/TEOTWAWKI Protocol". The idea is to create a sked that would allow those with similar interests to possibly contact one another after the end of the world. It could/should be promulgated beyond arfcom. Put it on all the appropriate forums: 10-8, Lightfighter, etc. It should not be more than twice a day. The intent is to communicate, not be rescued immediately and we'll all have plenty of other things to do if the S really does HTF. Times should be commensurate with natural breaks in a SHTF survival rhythm combined with a realistic assessment of ionospheric conditions over CONUS. I.e. not first thing in the morning when the ionosphere is dead and not at 1500 when people are tending crops, etc. I propose:
The KEY is to get a LOT of people interested. It does us no good if it's just the 20 arfcom hams. |
