Made a solid contact with a station this afternoon on 18.128, received 5/9 report-the guy was 20+ on my radio-really loud!

He gave his call as :XF3IZ2LSC

and that makes no sense to me (or qrz ) I asked a few times to make sure I had it right, and same thing over and over....anyone have any ideas?

It appears to be an Italian call sign with an additional prefix.

Is this the guy?

IZ2LSC

Lookup on QRZ, the prefix is an operating location I belive, also check out his page on eham, net

Hope that helps
and Congrats on the DX!

Yes, on the link I gave above, click the Detail tab.  He's got the XF3 prefix listed.

XF3 / IZ2LSC

There is a forward slash separating the XF3 location prefix and the call sign.

I recognized the IZ prefix having worked some Italians before.

{Head in Hands}

I looked up that call and didn't wait on the QSL photo to load (it's really slow on the farm)

I knew I didn't get to Italy for sure......oh, patience where art thou?

Thanks for clarifying that for me guys!  This is getting fun!

Keep hanging out on 17, you'll get Italy.  I've talked to a guy named Roberto near Milan a couple times, I've heard him quite a few times.  I forget his call right now but when he's on you'll hear him.  He always has a booming signal.

I hear him all the time, very strong accent and hard to understand, seems very nice though.

My only Italy contact has been on 20 meter IW6DRH

IZ8FWN Pet (Pietro) was my first European contact, 100 w SSB on 20 meters.

IK8DUE and IZ0MQN both were PSK31 contacts at 25 watts on 40 meters.
