http://radioshop888.com/radioshop_product.php?id=104072 took about 2.5 weeks to get here, i ordered the box and all the cables including the dc power cable so we can attach to pretty much any radio on the market. i tried it out today with my wouxon ht, vx-7,vx-3, and ft-2800 radios. it worked out perfectly. i did notice for some reason my vx-7 had a good bit of muffled audio and background buzzing that the other radios did not have when retransmitted from the box. oddly enough the audio from it coming from my other radio on initial transmit was clean. the other radios did not do this. the unit has an internal lipo bat that will run 30 hrs <per specs> i have not run it that long but it's been powered on since 9am this morning and still running strong. no reason i can see it shouldn't go the distance. i think this will work well for us. the unit feels pretty well made and would be VERY easy to waterproof. size is slightly larger than a pack of cigs. the DTMF code control works very well also. some radios require a different tx "mode" to operate <the wouxon did>. once i switched to mode 2 it worked perfectly and the setting did not affect the other radios. just thought i'd share. |

So all that these things do is record the incoming audio, wait a short time, then shoot it back out using ptt inputs? Edit: can you use splits with it? That's it. Trade off is that it doubles the time for comms, but is so cheap. A couple of buddies of mine and I fly high altitude weather balloons (HAB) and one of them bought one of the Argent ones hoping to fly it. Should make 2m comms on that freq available over a radius of close to 400 miles from close to 100,000 feet. Fairly common thing for HABers to do, we just haven't done it yet. If you would like to see some cool pics from some of our flights, check out NIXHAB. I don't know about splits, but think it wouldn't do any good as it still records and then plays. |
