Back a few of months ago (April) I was just licensed and wanting a mobile...

after days of searching all online vendors I found the unit I wished for at Gigaparts for $329+.

I had to pass due to some urgent bills, and have finally gotten back to the point where I think I could make a purchase....until I went price shopping OUCH!

Seems the Kenwood TM-V71A has almost unilaterally increased in sales price $60+...since April '11.  Anyone else notice a jump in ham radio related goods?

off to QTH to search the ads..

Check eham's classified adds you might find what you are looking for.
Here is the link I found my Icom ic-7000 there for a fairly good price.

I saw some used mobile rigs locally this weekend. These looked serious used, but still working.

$25 cheaper than the retail price of a new one, even with the addition of shipping, I didn't think it was much of a deal. I'll get a bonus check in August and I'll buy new.

Agreed.

I patiently waited for a good used yaesu 8800 for almost a year.  I finally broke down, drove up to AES cleveland and purchased a new one.  I try to buy used most of the time, as shooting and radio aren't the cheapest of hobbies.  Yet, I just don't understand why used radio equipment is so expensive.  It makes more sense to just buy new if your only saving 75$ IMO.

Just buy it.

good luck

The manager at the Woodbridge, VA HRO told me a couple of weekends ago that Kenwood has recently raised prices on all of their stuff.  I experienced this with a battery for my TH-D72A.  It was ~$60 when the radio first came out, and is now selling for $80-$90.

Ya'll don't know where to look.  I have only bought 2 new radios.  All others were used.  And I got what I considered good deals.  Yaesu 857 for $450 ...817 for $400..TS-50 $350

Just gotta look hard and make an offer.

please point me to where your finding those.  qrz and the other big boards want damn near retail for 4-5 yr old rigs.

I got the 817 and ts 50 on QRZ and the 857 on qth.  There is an Icom 817 in perfect shape for $450 right now on qth.  That looks like a decent deal.

I have never found a deal on a radio Im  looking for , most want more than new sale price for them .  I wait for black friday and christmas sales. Normally you can save about 20% around that time.

I was able to get a used 8800 off of Ebay for around $300.  It works great.
