| Anyone know about how long does it typically take the FCC to approve or dismiss an online application for a vanity call sign? |
|
Approximately 2 weeks. I applied on 31 May and received my new call yesterday.
Check out this website: http://www.ae7q.com/ This site is very useful and downloads the FCC database info daily. It will provide you with info such as which call you should be getting and when it should be processed. |

Prediction reads "Unpaid (assignment)". |

im pretty sure vanity calls have to sit for longer than 2 weeks, iirc it was a little less than 30 days unless the call was recently used, then there may be a 2 year wait for the previous licencee to reclaim the call before it is reissued. I applied on 31 May and my call was assigned on 18 June. The shortest time that I saw on the AE7Q website was about 2 weeks. |
| Another helpful sight you might want to check out is http://www.vanityhq.com. Pretty helpful guide to what's available now, what is becoming available soon, and the history of the callsign you're looking at. |

Here’s my advice on vanity calls: SAY IT OUT LOUD A FEW TIMES! I changed mine to end in my initials, CLC, and later realized it totally SUCKED when said out loud. Nobody could understand it, “Slee? What? Huh? What is slee?” Then I had to change it again. Good advice! My orginal callsign sucked to say. Also, some letters said using phonetics have added "punch" that can get you through a pileup. |

I changed it to K7XFE (X Flight Engineer) which is MUCH easier to understand. I'm only on VHF/UHF anyway though, so not much pile-up to deal with. |

Mine was hard to understand phonetically, Many Many repeated call signs. Luckily my initials are much better and can be said with some punch. |

Well, Lets see. My dad passed away in Feb. 05 and wanted me to upgrade from Tech to Extra and get his call. I took me a little over a year to get it done, but once i provided the proper documentation to the FCC it took about 3 weeks. My call sign has now been in my family for 62 years, since 1949.
