I have an old (approved w/ Seal - no expiration) FCC Form 753 from my search and rescue days ('84).   I do remember running a net a few times, but I basically have not done anything with it in over 20 years.  In trying to research this old license I noticed on the FCC site it was replaced by form 605.  I am wondering if any of you that are more current on license requirements can tell me if it is still valid (I didn't see any mandates to reapply for newer form 605) & what (if anything) I can do with it today?   I think this used to allow me to run on HAM frequencies, but it's been a while.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Looks like that is (was) the "restricted radiotelephone operator's permit".  Its usefulness nowadays is extremely limited, I think you need them to operate a marine service HF radio, maybe aviation radios, probably a few other things.

It never had any applicability to the amateur radio service.

If you want to operate an amateur radio, you need an amateur license.

Gamma's right.  Here's mine, issued nearly thirty years ago, for A&P mechanics taxiing aircraft around airfields.
