on one of these:

It will be a week or so before I get it in my hot little hands.  I wanted a TEOTWAWKI receiver, and this is it.

I do beleive that since this is the ham radio forum, the correct phrase would be "keyed the mic".

congrats on the new old toy.

no idea what that is (outside of the obvious radio transceiver), but it looks just right for TEOTWAWKI!...

It's only a receiver, 0.5 to 30 mhz split up into 30 bands.  All tube, and built like a tank.  If I remember right they have 19 miniature tubes.  Collins made the model 51J-4 from 55 to 62.

These particular receivers are known for being very hot, the guy in my club I'm buying it from says it is every bit as good on weak signals as his Icom.  No DSP of course but you do get mechanical filters.  They were really advanced for their day.

That is one beautiful piece of equipment. I stare and drool every time I see old rack mount gear.

It's one of the nicest receivers ever made and is still highly sought after by the AM guys. An average price for one of those is in the $800-$1200 range.

Actually I was thinking that was a 75A-4, which is what commands that price. Still, nice rig.

but will it fit in a bread pan & hide till the Wolverines come by?
Interesting piece!

Gee, I don't know if that will work anymore.  It's got cycles but no hertz.

Nice Collins. My TEOTWAWKI receiver.

Old AN/GRR-5 made by Zenith for the US military back in the 1950s. Still works. Can run off AC or DC 6, 12 or 24 volts.

Yeah.....I always regretted selling my Collins KWS-1 and 75A4 w/matching speaker a few years back....The owner now is Joe Walsh.

I have owned several S lines and KWM-2 and 2a's, just can't beat any of the ole American tube equipment...

My gold dust twins where built in 1958 and they sold new for $2400.00, a lot of jack back than. When Walsh WB6ACU saw my ad in the now defunct YB classified ads he called me and sent me a next day air bank check. ...a small fortune to ship all that heavy metal to Studio City, Ca. The power supply alone weighs 165 pounds!

Yes the money was good, but I still miss them..
