What is the name of the feature that allows you to interface your Ham Radio with your P.C. ? I have seen several peoples "shacks" and their computer monitors are the same as the display on their radios.
Is this something that all or most all radios can do? or Is this something that only special "newer" or late models of radios are capable of? Whats is the feature called on the radio? what should i look for on the spec sheet? Also the name of the software or hardware for your pc if it is something that is needed on that end. Thanks again in advance for all your help! Scott |
| You use a serial cable or usb and audio out and in and download freeware software. The guy next door has this setup and he is out of town. I will let you know as soon as he gets back in. Unless someone else answers. I'm new to the ham world. just got my license. KJ4ZVF |

I know for example a Heathkit from the 1970's would not have this feature, but when or from what date on is this feature available and the other specifics about it. I am looking to buy my first transciever and would like this to be available if possible. thanks a ton for the quick reply! I am looking forward to hearing others chime in as well!!! 73 S |

Its called CAT , it uses a serial cable most of the time and a few are going usb . There is free software such as ham radio deluxe that handles the pc side along with what the manufactures release , most radio companys have the info so you could write your own if your into that sort of thing . Google CAT control or CAT interface and ham radio to find out more. |
