OK Gang what do you'all know about the V82?? The good/bad and ugly!

| i have the earlier model the IC-V8 and its GTG. i have beat that thing to death and its still kicking. right now im running it off the AA pack with eneloops and it runs great. they are hard to beat and very robust. one thing, get a better antenna for it. a good HT antenna will make a difference. |

The V8 (direct predecessor of the V82) is a good radio. Seems like it has a more sensitive receiver although it is not as 'solid' as the waterproof Yaesus I have owned. We've captured more V8s than any other radio. Often they've been rigged with field expedient long whips and are running off motorcycle batteries. |

Thats interesting , I never really thought of the opfor over there using 2 way radios minus for ied detonation devises . Bad guys love 2M radios though for tactical commo and ragchewing at night. They'll put up homebrew repeaters from time to time. I was able to key one up with my Vx6. |

Thats is why I am putting a PL on my homebrew portable 2 meter repeater. LOL.. Actually I have a V82 and two U82's in the radio closet. The audio both in and out is very good (probably due to no waterproofing) and the battery packs are cheap. They are also some of the last HT radios to have a BNC connector for the antenna which I consider to be a plus if you are going to use an extended antenna or a mobile antenna.

Thanks for the IED and Afgani info but guys really want to know how the V82 is working for ECOMM and just day to day use. A follow on question about the programming software available for the V82. Is the ICOM software worth the REAL big bucks that ICOM wants for it as well as the programming cable. ADMS does not make software for the V82 nor a cable so for programming it's either ICOM or hand programming.

| I was running a V82 for a short time with hopes of purchasing the D-Star board for the radio and using it for D-Star, then I needed funds for other bills and had to sell it. I would buy another in a heart beat to use as a back up. I found it very easy to program with the Icom software that was included with the radio. I used it for one event a bicycle race as my VX-7R was hooked up to a magnet mount antenna and then I had a way of communicating outside the vehicle without taking the VX-7R out of the chase vehicle. Very sturdy and strong and the plus side of being able to add the D Star board to it. |
