My Tech is set to expire in Jan and I got some reminders from a local Net and another place that charges to take care of the renewal. I haven't keyed up my 2mtr rig in five years but I don't want to let my license expire.  So, I went to the FCC website and figured out how to do the renewal online, for free.  So, looks like I'm good for another 10yrs and might just get back into the hobby.  I see you don't have to know code anymore....That kinda held me back from going for my General years ago so now I might study up and give it a go.

Do it. There is quite a bit more to radio when you get your general. Hf is a blast.

I was in the same boat as you. Just decided to give it a shot after a 15 year break. Bought an DB HT, and have been toying around that for a bit. One thing I have noticed as te local guys on 2m repeater are kind of clicky, and some of the CBer type mentality has crept into the realm, but not too bad. I was also disappointed to see they waived the code requirement. Tried getting on HF and my tube finals on my rig gave out so now I am without HF until I figure out what to do with this. Going to go do my General Test in February.

Definitely make the upgrade to general.....HF is a whole different animal.
I find it way more interesting than local VHF / UHF radio.
I rarely ever turn on my 2m radio these days....once I got into HF it was all about the skywaves.
