By now we've all heard and experienced the disappointment that is solar cycle 24. Our solar index is way down compared to where it was at this point in the last cycle, and it looks like its peak will be much lower than the previous two. As a casual observer of these things though, it seems to me that the spots we do have seem to be much more prone to flares and ejections. Does anyone know if there is any proven corollary between limited sunspot activity and volatility? In other words, are we in for a bumpy ride during this crappy solar cycle?
