I now have my Extra.

Passed after about 3 weeks of studying on my iphone with an app then a few day of intense studying over the weekend.  Ended up passing first round with 41 correct.  Now for my 2x1 callsign.

Started about spring with the Tech, a month later the General and now two months after that my Extra.  I am glad I took the tests and got it over with.  Now to get my HF rig.  Anyone want to donate one?

No code Extra with a 2x1 and no HF rig. I'd bet that sets the old-timers on FIRE!

Congrats.

I end up wondering down to my grandpas and using his rig.  Times are sure changing.

I wonder what would have happened with the internet if you were required to know html to be able to get on

They'll just have to get used to it.

It's been a long time since the old spark gap days, too.

Congrats to the OP!!!

From one "no code Extra" to another.

Good job!  It was almost 30 years from my first ticket to my Extra.  But with experience, I didn't study for it at all.

But you have no HF rig?    Sinful!  </old fart>

Congrats.  If everything goes right I'll be testing for Extra on Tuesday so hopefully get to put a thread up after that.

awesome news.

ps:
don't forget to join up with us in the ARFCOM  Ham Radio - Extra Class Only  forum.  send me your call sign when you get it and i'll add you to the access list, otherwise you won't see it on the main forum page.   in the Extra forum there is none of this "what HF rig is best" nonsense, no wasting time reading "AGM batteries, please school me!" threads, and definitely none of that newfangled digital mode BS.  what we got in the Extra forum is Maxwell, Gauss, Faraday, Kirchhoff, Thevenin, Bode, Smith, Nyquist, and a vast collection of BOTD with a strict rule forbidding Lady Gaga.

Congrats!  I'm going to try to take all the tests up to extra in one go.  That's what's taking me so long to get my ticket.  I'm getting close on the practice tests.

I really should keep up on the licensing rules.  Didn't know there was a no-code extra.

My current license class (advanced) was removed a few years (5?) ago.  Got it back in the late 70's.

Advanced had a technical exam between the general and extra. 13wpm code.

Used to be the only reason to get an extra was for small CW only HF segments and to sponsor a repeater.

Yeah it opens up a few spots of voice as well now.  Not huge gains over being an Advanced Operator and I've seen some people who have kept their advanced license just to show that they know code and passed under the old rules.  I can't say what the right choice is there since I'm a no-code extra but learning code is on my to-do list.

I don't know when you had to be an Extra to sponsor a repeater (except it was a long time ago).  In the '80s/'90s I had repeaters as a Technician.  I do know until recently a "space" station had to have an Extra class licensee but even that is no longer a requirement - so all we have now is the bandwidth and eligibility for a spiffy callsign from the Extra block.

After passing mine last year I elected to keep my old N7xxx call but I did (and do) like the Extra spectrum.  This summer when I moved to 5-land I took a new sequentially issued call and I drew a very good 2X2 call, AEnxx.  In terms of weight there is only one better 2X2 call possible, and it is better than most possible 1X2 calls (perhaps a waste since I am not a frequent CW operator).

When the hoarders are forced to give up their collections of 1X2 & 2X1 calls I might consider a vanity if I see something I really like, but for now I am quite pleased with what I have.

Yes but do you get a cool radio tower icon like my tank????    Because if that is the case then I am going to get my extra to have more cool icons on my profile

ETA:  Congrats on the extra!
