| I was looking through some of my boxes of old cb stuff and I found an old skullcracka linier anyone know of where too get a wiring diagram for this thing showing the internals ? Also do they have any legit use on real ham freq(after Iget a Lic.)? (I do understand it is not legal too boost a cb freq) Thanks in advance |
| The biggest part of "legality" would be the spurious emitions. Meaning: yes it transmits on the frequency you're using it on, but how much does it transmit on the 2nd and 3rd harmonics of that frequency? (BTW: this is all stuff you'd learn studying for the tests....) CB linears are illegal by their very nature so all the rest of the legalities are also ignored. Other than SHTF where anything goes, it's trash. |
| Didn't Ice T own that company??? It is neither illegal to own or to sell....but I would not use it on a HAM band. Think of it this way....As a HAM you can build your own amp. You could theoretically build one exactly like that, legally, to use on HAM bands, but it would be rude and putting off all kinds of harmonics. Some people might say sell it and use the money to buy HAM equipment. I personally sold CB stuff to buy a HF rig. Yes, you are correct I know, to use it on 11M is illegal. |

They are also very wide banded, which means it will most likely work on 80-10 meters. Using it for CW or FM would be just fine, but introduce some audio, on SSB or AM, and they will produce MANY harmonics and will interfere with stations up and down the band. Owning and using such an amp by a licensed HAM is legal, but not smiled upon by the Ham community. Trash it's not. It could be modified to clean up the signal (add biasing to make it a class A/B and filtering on the output to supress any harmonics) but beyond the scope for the average HAM. My $0.02 |
