[ARCHIVED THREAD] - need scanner help

Metro Louisville just switched to 800mz trunked for police, ems, fire, etc. and now I need a new scanner.

I was looking at the Radio Shack PRO-2052 or Uniden's BCT-8 and need to know if I'll be able to hear anything with it.

Any radio guys out there who could help out?

I've had a Radio Shack PRO-2066 for about 10 yrs that works with the trunked systems in my area. You might want to look into what's in use in your area and see if the scanner you have in mind is compatible.

Wound up with a Radio Shack 2096 and PRO-197. Apparently they have to be APCO-25 and 9600 baud compatible. Not really sure what that means, but they seem to be working so far.

APCO-25 is also known as P25 which is a digital trunked system.
